Culture and Anarchy by Matthew Arnold is another find from the Transylvania County Library book sale. It’s a pretty interesting look at cultural commentary first published as a book in 1869. This print came from 1933. The illustrations are great, and the writing is pretty funny.

Oh, and it was edited by a guy named William S. Knickerbocker. Yep.

But perhaps my favorite part of the book is the last sentence:

But now we go the way the human race is going, while the abolish the Irish Church by the power of Nonconformists’ antipathy to establishments,  or they enable a man to marry his deceased wife’s sister.
